What Happens in Chainsaw Man Manga Chapter 28 (Summary)
Denji catches up to Reze in the city and they have a conversation in the middle of everything falling apart around them. Denji asks her directly whether any of it was real — the conversations, the time at the café, the way she listened to him. Reze’s answer is complicated. She does not say it was all fake. She says she was doing her job but that Denji was different from what she expected, and that distinction clearly matters to her even if she cannot fully articulate why. It is not a confession of love but it is not a denial either.
Denji proposes that they both leave. Not fight, not resolve anything — just go somewhere else together and stop being what everyone else needs them to be. It is the same dream he told Pochita at the series’ start, just directed at a real person. Reze is quiet for a moment and the chapter holds that quiet long enough for it to feel like a real pause in the story rather than a transitional beat. She does not immediately refuse.
Before anything is resolved, other operatives close in and the conversation ends. Reze prepares to defend herself and the practical situation overtakes the personal one. The chapter ends with the two of them separated by the intrusion of Public Safety assets, Denji trying to buy time, and Reze making calculations about whether escape is still possible with all of this in the way.
