What Happens in Chainsaw Man Manga Chapter 43 (Summary)

The Control Devil arc begins in full. Makima summons Denji and tells him she has a job for him that is different from regular devil hunting. She speaks to him in her usual careful way — warm, attentive, managing his feelings — but the request she makes is opaque. She wants Denji specifically for something involving the Gun Devil’s aftermath, and she tells him it is important without explaining why. Denji agrees immediately because he always agrees with Makima immediately.

The chapter reveals that Makima has been using people with the ability to communicate across distance to issue commands — she has a network of controlled individuals spread across Japan and potentially further, each one a link in a chain that extends her influence without her needing to be physically present. This is revealed in a matter-of-fact way that treats it as simply how she operates rather than as an expose of wrongdoing. It is presented as logistics rather than horror, which is exactly the framing it needs at this stage.

Power and Denji spend time together at the apartment in one of the chapter’s quieter sections. Power has developed something she would never describe as affection for Denji — she is not built for that word — but she makes him food in her chaotic way and sits with him while he is clearly processing something. The small domesticity between them is given space in a chapter that is mostly about setup, because Fujimoto knows what is coming and wants the reader to value what is about to be lost.
