What Happens in Chainsaw Man Manga Chapter 61 (Summary)
Asa asks Denji out on a date. She executes this poorly — too formal, too clearly scripted — but Denji agrees immediately because she is a girl who has expressed interest in him and that is sufficient motivation. They agree to go to the aquarium. Yoru is satisfied. Asa is apprehensive because spending several hours pretending to be interested in someone she finds irritating, while her body-sharing devil evaluates every interaction for weaponization potential, is not her idea of a good time.
The date begins. Asa has prepared talking points about aquatic biology, which she delivers with the social grace of someone who has rehearsed rather than someone who naturally converses. Denji wanders off to look at penguins mid-explanation, which Asa finds infuriating. Yoru tells Asa to follow him and be more spontaneous. Asa cannot be spontaneous because she is operating a checklist. The date is going badly in the specific way that dates go badly when one person is working and the other is just there.
A mysterious hunter who has been appearing in the background of several chapters — a woman with a notable appearance who has been tracking Asa and Yoru — reveals herself to Asa at the aquarium and identifies herself as Fami, the Famine Devil. She tells Asa that she and Denji are going to be trapped in the aquarium until Asa manages to weaponize him, and that this is for reasons that serve Fami’s own agenda. The aquarium’s geometry shifts. The Eternity Devil, or something like it, has returned.
